Charitable Gifts Provide Income for Life and a Lasting Legacy

Photo of Dr. Douglas Dompkowski ’95D (PDC) and wife Sharon Dr. Douglas Dompkowski ’95D (PDC) knew he wanted to be a dentist since the second grade. Today he is a highly regarded periodontist with two private practice offices and is a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Most recently, Dr. Dompkowski worked with the University’s Office of Trusts, Estates & Gift Planning on a philanthropic plan that will one day establish the Douglas F. Dompkowski, DDS, Endowed Scholars Fund in Periodontology and provide financial aid to residents and fellows of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health. “I am very grateful for the excellent and personalized training I received at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health and for the wonderful relationships I developed there.”

Dr. Dompkowski will realize his gift utilizing a combination of outright gifts and deferred charitable gift annuities. Upon funding a flexible deferred charitable gift annuity, he will receive a tax deduction. He will enjoy income in retirement at a time of his choosing. The fixed payments are guaranteed for his lifetime.

“Ensuring that future generations of residents have the same opportunities to pursue their dreams as I did, regardless of their financial situation, is deeply gratifying,” said Dr. Dompkowski.

Dr. Dompkowski and his wife Sharon are members of the Wilson Society, which honors those who have included the University in their estate planning.
